RRIP-IT-UP

RRIP-IT-UP is a grant-funded effort being carried out by the Upper Peninsula Resource Conservation & Development Council with the help of numerous partners.  At least 100 volunteers will be recruited to be part of a network called, “Rapid Response Invasive Plant Intervention Team of the Upper Peninsula” or RRIP-IT-UP.

Local Rapid Response Teams will be established by Conservation Districts and partners throughout the UP. Members of these teams will be trained in the identification of the major invasive plants present, and will also be able to recognize those weeds having the potential to arrive in the area soon. When invasive plants are spotted, the members of the teams will know the appropriate action to take.  Teams will be encouraged to pull single weeds, but if a larger infestation is found, they will be asked to call their local Conservation District.

The Upper Peninsula Resource Conservation and Development Council's 2010 Annual Report provides some background in the Council's efforts to identify and remove invasive plants in the Upper Peninsula.  Besides sponsoring the RRIP-IT-UP program, the Council is a member of the Eastern Upper Peninsula Cooperative Management Area (EUPCWMA) (see page 5 of the Annual Report).  Click here to view the 2010 Annual Report.
