Pearson Creek at Meridian Road

The Watershed Project worked with the Mackinac County Road Commission and Clark Township to replace three deteriorated culverts at the Pearson Creek crossing of Meridian Road in Cedarville.

The culverts were in disrepair, the concrete headwall on the west side of Meridian Road was collapsing into the creek, and the wooden retaining wall on the north stream bank was failing.  The project includes replacing the existing culverts with one concrete box culvert and repair/restoration of the stream bank east of the crossing.

Monday, September 14, 2009 

Meridian Road was closed to traffic on Monday, September 14th and reopened on Thursday, September 17th.

  

   

The Mackinac County Road Commission began preparing the site for installation of the new culvert.  Sand bags were positioned to hold back the water from the area to be excavated.  Pumps were used to keep the area as dry as possible.

Once the creek flow had been diverted to the northern most culvet, the two southern culverts were removed.

     

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

After the old culverts and road base were removed, the base for the new culverts was shaped and leveled. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Limestone was used as the new base material for the culvert.

Wednesday, September 16, 2009  

 

 

 

Edison Sault Power employees were on-site early in the morning to prepare for removal of power lines.  Electricity was turned off at approximately 7:00 a.m.

  

    

  

    

 

Electric power was turned back on at 11:15 a.m.  The final piece was in position by noon.
