Wendy Wagoner - Technician of the Year
Wendy received this award at the annual convetion of the
Michigan Association of Conservation Districts. Wendy was nominated for this award because she has always been willing to work more, learn more, share more, try more and be more than she has ever been paid for.
She joined the CEMCD as an employee in 2002 but had served as both a volunteer and director prior to that time. Wendy was integrally involved in the startups of the Les Cheneaux Watershed Association, the Northern Wild Plant and Seed Cooperative and the EUP Cooperative Weed Management Area – all groups dedicated to the environment and all continuing very successfully after Wendy's involvement is over. A legacy of conservation!
Wendy's willingness to plow into a new project and make it a success reflects her passion and dedication. She takes a positive attitude and applies it with creative thinking and laughter. Wendy has recently married and moved away. We will miss her.

Our District
The Chippewa/East Mackinac Conservation
District was established on May 23, 1949. This past year we celebrated 60 years of service to the landowners of Chippewa and Mackinac Counties.
The District includes all of Chippewa County and the eastern half of Mackinac County.
The number of employees actively working on projects and programs in our District fluctuates depending on the number of federal, state, and local grants made available to the District. We have been fortunate to receive a number planning and implementation grants dealing with watersheds, water quality, soil protection, invasive plants and insects, and farming enhancements.
